Books I Want To See TV/ Film Adaptations Of

04/08/2025

Whether you've settled down with a book, you're munching popcorn in front of a film or watching your favourite tv show, everyone loves to be sucked into a good story. I'm sure my fellow readers would agree that a good film/ tv adaptation of your favourite book/series is always a treat, and the books I'm about to mention have the potential to work on screen.

Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell would make an amazing fantasy adventure film.

This thrilling fantasy story follows Christopher and Mal, two children who embark on a quest to save magical creatures from dying. With Rundell's skilled worldbuilding, emotional character journeys and themes mirroring real world concerns, if done right this film adaptation would become a true classic among families.

Paula Hawkins' The Girl on the Train should be made into a TV show

Before I dive into this, I'm aware there is a film already. I'm not a fan. The decision to change the setting to America makes no sense, the twist wasn't handled well, and the film fell flat compared to the book.

Breaking the story down across a TV series would allow the depth of the story to shine. Having episodes dedicated to each POV in the story would allow suspense to build and showcase the complexity of Hawkins' main characters further.

Setting is one of the most important aspects of the book and is in some ways a character. Staying faithful to the Urban setting of London can only enhance the adaptation further.

The Land of Stories series needs a film adaptation (and there's allegedly one in the works!)

Chris Colfer is a genius. Everything about this series is exciting, magical and fun. He takes classic fairytales and makes them fresh and new. There's lots of amazing material to work with, from a vibrant cast of characters to compelling emotional arcs from the main characters. I truly think this could be exceptional. I need to see Julie Walters as Mother Goose. Only then will my life be complete.

I would love to see a TV adaptation of Cinderella is Dead by Kaylnn Bayron

A fairytale retelling with a badass protagonist? Check. A fantasy world where not everything is as it seems? Check. A huge fanbase from the book? Triple check. This book has all the ingredients for a compelling fantasy adaptation. Think Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, or Once Upon a Time. And it's always a huge bonus to have TV shows with casual representation.

A Final Note

Though these stories are wonderful as books, they have the potential to shine on the big screen. Each one explores powerful themes, perfect for emotional weight, and any actors cast in them could have a lot of fun with the characters.
