Summer Essentials: Beauty Must Haves in your Travel Makeup Bag

If you're anything like me when it comes to packing for a holiday, you like to be sorted and ready to go the night before your trip. When it comes to beauty products, it's difficult to decide what to bring. Should you bring a second eyeshadow palette? What if you tan, and you need a darker foundation? How many lip glosses should you bring?

These questions are subjective, and I won't be providing a definitive answer. However, here's my two cents on what to pack in your travel makeup bag. I'm keeping this short and simple, with a sprinkling of product recommendations along the way.

Face:

Suncream is non-negotiable, no matter where you are headed. Skin is the largest organ of the human body, and its important to take care of it as you would with your internal organs. Sunburn isn't fun; overexposure to the sun can cause serious health issues. Aim for factor 50 and apply every few hours. As great as you may look with a tan, I promise coming home with undamaged, unburnt skin feels even better.

If you want your makeup to last all day, I'd recommend taking a primer and setting spray. There are many brands out there selling travel-friendly sizes, and these products are designed to keep your makeup looking flawless. My favorite primer is Fenty's Pro Filt'r Hydrating, and pairing this with the Elf Power Grip setting spray keeps my makeup from shifting due to the heat.

Travelling often dries out the skin, so I'd recommend taking moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and looking its best. Brands such as Simple and Cerave offer affordable, travel friendly options which are suitable for all skin types.

Makeup:

When it comes to packing base makeup, I tend to gravitate towards products with a lighter coverage, especially if I'm going somewhere warm. Not only does this give my skin a chance to breathe, but any shifting of makeup due to the heat is less noticeable.

I'm a huge fan of eyeshadow, and I have more palettes than I probably need. I would recommend bringing one palette that has a variety of shades, where you're able to switch up your look if you want to without it taking up extra suitcase space. The 42 colour palettes from beauty bay are a great choice for holiday, with the smaller 9 colour palettes working well for those with limited bag space.

Lips can get dry when travelling, so make sure you take a lip balm (and a couple of lip-glosses if you wear them)
